A New Luxury is Being Born

VIA SAN FRANCESCO ASSISI

Assisi’s Next Chapter in Luxury Hospitality

Tucked along the ancient pilgrimage road that winds through the heart of Umbria, a new kind of luxury hotel in Assisi is taking shape — one that does not seek to impress with manufactured grandeur, but with the weight of eight centuries of history beneath your feet.

Via San Francesco Assisi is a hotel diffuso: two extraordinary historic buildings on the same medieval street, restored to the highest standards of contemporary comfort while preserving every arch, fresco, and stone that time has shaped. Building No. 48 stands directly across from the Basilica of Saint Francis, its rooftop terrace offering one of the most breathtaking panoramas in all of Umbria. Building No. 19, a 14th-century convent with Gothic vaulted ceilings and cross-arched corridors, holds secrets still being revealed by the artisans working on-site today.

We are not building a hotel. We are revealing one.

The restoration is underway, and we have chosen to document it openly — the discoveries, the challenges, the centuries-old craftsmanship brought back to life by specialists from across Italy. Every week, this journal grows. Every photograph adds a chapter to a story that will culminate in 2028, when the doors open to the first guests.

For those seeking a luxury hotel in Assisi that offers more than a comfortable room — who want to sleep inside living medieval history, walk Via San Francesco at first light before the pilgrims arrive, and understand what it means when a place has carried sacred meaning for nine hundred years — this project is being built for you.

The Vision

Where History Meets Timeless Hospitality

On Via San Francesco — the ancient pilgrimage road leading to the Basilica — two remarkable buildings are being restored to become a single, extraordinary experience: a hotel diffuso where every stone tells a story.

The Two Buildings

One Street, Two Extraordinary Stories

N° 48 · The View

Directly across from the Basilica of Saint Francis, this building has welcomed pilgrims and travelers since 1960. Its rooftop terrace offers one of the most breathtaking views in all of Umbria — the façade of the Basilica at golden hour, the Valle Umbra stretching into the distance.

N° 19 · The Convent

This building’s story begins in the 14th century, when the Confraternita di San Gregorio maintained a Military Hospital here, built upon medieval foundations. Gothic arched windows from the 1300s, cross-vaulted ceilings, and a 17th-century fresco of the Madonna with Saints Gregory and Francis — every surface holds a secret. Now being restored as a luxury boutique hotel under the supervision of the Italian Ministry of Cultural Heritage.
